Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. These girls have created a strong bond amongst each other. They created a family something that not a lot of other teams can do. But with such a powerful bond it has so far led them to great victories.

With so many remarkable athletic achievements this school year we wanna give a shoutout to the Lady Dons varsity softball team for obtaining a 10 game winning streak and so far only having on loss. The Lady Dons have rarely been challenged this season, and when they have, they have usually risen to the occasion, outscoring opponents 119-27 through the first 11 games. And just like last year, the Lady Dons look like the team to beat in Class 3A. And it might be easy to point to freshman sensation Malie Satete and think this dominance is due to her presence, this team is much deeper than that, with a deep offense capable of doing damage all through the lineup.

In their most recent game, April 4 against Belen, Satete was prevented from being a difference maker offensively, as the Lady Eagles walked her twice. She did pick up a double, steal four bases and score three runs. However with Belen keying in on her at the plate, other players stepped up and filled the power void. Senior Alexis Pacheco and sophomore Mattea Griego each hit home runs, while juniors Tyra Horner and Annabelle Ulibarri added doubles. Satete still dominated in the pitcher’s circle, tossing 3.2 shutout innings and striking out 10 of the 14 batters she faced. After two more non-district games this weekend, district play will really kick off for the Lady Dons next week, with games against Robertson and

St. Michael’s.
